Census 2010

After the National census occurs in 2010, the General Assembly will vote on "Redistricting" the State Senate and House of Delegates district lines. The currently elected State Senate with a Democrat Majority will determine the new district lines for the 40 State Senate districts.

Based on the population growth in Northern Virginia, the State Senate district lines will be redrawn likely adding a new Senate district. For example the 33rd State Senate district included over 150,000 registered voters, while neighboring Senate districts were around 120,000. The redistricting process is intended to equalize the State Senate and Delegate districts. Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will also redistrict the magisterial (supervisor) districts to bring them to roughly the same population as well. The General Assembly will also vote on redistricting the eleven U.S. House of Representative districts in Virginia in time for the 2012 Congressional elections.
